Featured Cocktail: The Louisville Cocktail

This episode’s featured drink is the Louisville Cocktail. To make it, you’ll need:

• 2 oz Bourbon
• ½ oz Lillet Rouge
• ½ oz Lillet Blanc

Combine all these ingredients in a mixing glass with ice, stir for 15-20 seconds until well chilled and thoroughly mixed, and strain into a stemmed cocktail glass.

A note on the ingredients:

Lillet is a French-style aperitif, and this cocktail is essentially a perfect Manhattan (or a Manhattan made with equal parts sweet and dry vermouth). However, instead of vermouths, we’re using the slightly stronger, slightly sweeter aperitifs, which makes the Louisville cocktail, the perfect Manhattan’s stronger, sweeter cousin.
Enjoy it with the citrus twist of your choice, and make sure to offer a toast for all the delicious Bourbon brought to us by the great state of Kentucky.

CBD Crash Course

• CBD is an abbreviation for the compound Cannabidiol, which is a substance found in many cannabis plants, including hemp and marijuana.
• CBD is different from another compound called THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol), which is also found in many cannabis plants.
• The term psychoactivity refers to the power of a substance to alter a person’s state of consciousness (or “make you high”). CBD is non-psychoactive, whereas THC is considered psychoactive.
• For a CBD product to be manufactured and sold legally in the United States, it must be derived from hemp, which is a cannabis plant descheduled by The Agricultural Improvement Act of 2018. If CBD is derived from hemp and contains less than 0.3% THC by volume, then it may be legally sold in the United States.

CBD Cocktail: The Sour T-eisel

This cocktail was created by California bartender Jason Eisner, and it does a great job incorporating the grassy, somewhat agricultural flavors of CBD into a cocktail with exceptional flavor and mouthfeel. To make it, you’ll need:

• 2 oz Tequila blanco
• 1 oz fresh lime juice
• 1⁄2 oz agave nectar or simple syrup
• 1 pinch Pink sea salt (optional)
• 3 mint leaves
• 5 drops LOU CBD tincture (100mg)
• 3⁄4 oz aquafaba

Place all of the ingredients except for the CBD oil and aquafaba in a cocktail shaker with ice and shake vigorously. Fine-strain into a large container, and add the CBD oil and aquafaba. Emulsify the liquid for 5 seconds with a stick/immersion blender. Transfer the liquid back into the cocktail shaker, and strain the liquid into a cocktail glass.

• Proof of 3rd Party Testing (for ingredient verification)
• Indication of organic growing practices
• THC-free or less than 0.3% THC
• Avoid CBD isolate in order to benefit from the entourage effect
